The Council of the Federation conducted a mission to Washington, D.C. on February 19-21, 2010. The mission focused on trade and border issues, as well as on energy and the environment.
Saskatchewan, Ontario, Québec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, Alberta, and Newfoundland and Labrador were represented in the mission.
The centrepiece of the mission was a joint meeting between Premiers and Governors on February 20 as part of the National Governors Association Winter Meeting. This was the first-ever meeting of the Council of the Federation and its counterpart organization in the U.S., the National Governors Association. Premiers also met with members of the Obama Administration, as well as representatives of leading think tanks.
