Canada and the United States have a deep and long-standing relationship. Millions of jobs in both countries are linked to the integrated economies and supply chains that currently exist. This continued partnership is essential to a strong and secure North America.
The Council of the Federation conducted a Premiers’ mission to Washington, D.C. on February 19-20, 2010. The mission focused on trade and border issues, as well as on energy and the environment.
Saskatchewan, Ontario, Québec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, Alberta and Newfoundland & Labrador were represented in the mission.
The centrepiece of the mission was a joint meeting between Premiers and Governors on February 20 as part of the National Governors Association Winter Meeting. This was the first-ever meeting of the National Governors Association and its counterpart organization in Canada, the Council of the Federation. Premiers also met with members of the Obama Administration, as well as representatives of leading think tanks.
